FAQ'S
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use de-icers on my new concrete? The bag says it is safe for use on all concrete. Is that true?
- You should never use de-icers or products containing ammonium sulfate or ammonium nitrate. These products will rapidly deteriorate you concrete.
- Recommendation: Shovel snow and ice from your concrete as soon as reasonably possible. The sun is strong in Colorado year-round, and will naturally melt the rest. If you must apply something, use sand. You should never use de-icers during you first winter with your new concrete.
Does all concrete crack?
- Concrete shrinks as a result of the curing process. This shrinking, often leads to cracks but rarely are these structural in nature.
Can cracks be prevented?
- Not entirely. The proper placement of control joints is crucial to the prevention of unwanted cracks and their appearance. The purpose of these joints is to encourage the concrete to crack where we want it to crack, therefore mitigating the likelihood of cracks developing elsewhere.
- Recommendation: Work with the experts at Flat & Fancy to place control joints where they are aesthetically pleasing as well as effective.
What is stamped concrete?
- Stamped concrete is an advanced technique used to impart images, designs, and patterns on the surface of freshly placed concrete. Stamped concrete is as strong as any other concrete you come across. All we do is add color based on your direction, and impress upon the surface the pattern of your choice. Often, we are told “….you would never know this is concrete!”
Why is stamped concrete becoming so popular?
- Concrete is one of the most durable materials on earth. In addition, when properly installed and cared for, it will look great and last for many years. Often, stamped concrete is more cost-effective than natural stone, bricks, and pavers. When you look at how quickly stamped concrete can be installed, how little annual maintenance is involved, and the flexibility you have in your design (curvatures, color, stamped design), you will arrive at the same conclusion as so many others: Enhanced Concrete is the way to go!
What is acid stained concrete?
- These are chemicals that are added to the surface of the concrete and react directly with it, leaving the color and pattern of your choice. The end result is a very durable floor which is truly unique to you.
How long does a project take from start to finish?
- This depends of course, on the size of the project. But normally, you can expect us to complete your project within a few days from the time we start.
